Finnish National Opera and Ballet, Almi Hall, Helsinki
Swan Song (dir. Marita Liulia) & Bright Shadow
(Minna Tervamäki, Pontus Sundset, Kimmo Pohjonen, Markus Hohti). Combining dance, multimedia and live music and using video and robot cameras, this dance work directed by Marita Liulia was inspired by the career of star dancer Minna Tervamäki – and by the dying swans in ballet. Swan Song focuses on current themes of encountering the alien and of the unpredictability of life.
In Bright Shadow Pohjonen’s primeval energy contrasts with the sensitivity and intensiveness of Tervamäki, as the audience is treated to a battle of wills between these two charismatic performers. The greatest power is found in tranquillity and balance.
Only two performances in October.
